Watch Sparta’s final home dual of the season this year against La Crosse Central tonight. Tonight is also parent’s night as the team, wrestlers and program thank Spartan wrestler’s parents for their commitments to their wrestlers and the program. Central welcomes two of the highest ranked wrestlers in the conference in Ben Thornton (#1 at 120 in D1) and Jaden VanMaanen (#2 at 106). The Red Raiders also see Josh Kuhse (HM at 113) and Connor Williams (#9 at 145).
The Spartans counter with five ranked wrestlers. They include Christian Lamon (HM at 113 in D2), John Roddick (4th at 126), Brock Polhamus (5th at 138), Dylan Winchel (8th at 145) and Logan Degenhardt (6th at 220). On paper, the matches between Kuhse and Lamon at 113 and Winchel and Williams at 145 look to be some of the better ones.
Earlier this year, Central lost to Holmen 48-32 and Tomah 48-28. They also fell to West Salem/Bangor 48-29. At Bi-State, VanMaanen placed 2nd at 106, Thornton defeated Viroqua’s JJ McClelland 7-3 in the finals to take first at 120 and Connor Williams placed 6th at 152. In their dual against Holmen, the Red Raiders forfeited matches at 152, 170, 182 ,195, 200 and 285. Holmen forfeited matches at 113 and 120. In the actual matches wrestled, Central won four of six. They don’t have a full lineup, but they have some very solid wrestlers.
Action should kick off around 6:30 for the JV and 7:30 for the varsity. There might be somewhat of a delay in getting things going as it is parent’s night so there will be ceremonies before the varsity wrestles. If you can’t make it to the dual, you can watch it below!
