La Crosse Central forfeited seven matches and Sparta won ten matches overall as the Spartans cruised past the Red Raiders 55-20 in the final home dual of the season Thursday evening in Sparta. In a bit of a surprise move, Brock Polhamus moved up to wrestle Connor Williams at 152. Williams entered the dual ranked 9th in division one at 152 pounds, but was no match for Polhamus who won 4-1. Sparta would pick up six points one match later as Logan VanTassel pinned Graham Fuchs early in the second period to put the Spartans up 15-6.
After VanTassel’s pin, Central forfeited five straight matches to put the dual out of reach. When all the forfeits were over and the 106 match started, Sparta’s lead had ballooned to 45-6. At 106, Central’s Jaden VanMaanen (ranked #2 at 106) pinned Corey Zimmerman in 5:24. The next match pitted Central’s Josh Kuhse (HM in D1) against Christian Lamon (HM in D2). The battle of the honorable mentions went to Kuhse as he won 9-5. Next up for Central was three-time state finalist and 2012 state champion Ben Thornton. It was Collin Gartner who would have to face Thornton and Collin stayed off his back en route to a 16-1 loss.
Sparta would win the final two matches with John Roddick pounding out a 9-0 victory over Jake Obert and Jaden Winchel making quick work of Kyle Dalton via a pin in 1:45 to give Sparta the 55-20 victory. Full results are below…

The victory pushes Sparta’s dual record to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the MVC. The Spartans will wrestle Tomah next Thursday for their first MVC championship since the 2010-11 season.
