Sparta’s streak of six straight victories over Tomah was snapped Thursday night as the Timberwolves won nine of 14 matches–all of them by pin or major decision–to defeat Sparta 46-24 in Tomah. It was a dominating victory by the Timberwolves as they won six of the first seven matches along with the final three to outpace the Spartans on their home mat.
Picking up wins for the Spartans were Jon Bailey, Collin Gartner, Brett Von Ruden, Jaden Winchel and Hayden Krein. Christian Lamon wasn’t able to make weight while Ryan Wisniewski sat out with an injury, but even that might not have mattered as Tomah was clearly in control from the start. Of Tomah’s five pins, four come in the first period.
The Spartans pulled to within 30-24 after Hayden Krein’s pin of Conner Von Haden at 160 pounds, but Tomah rattled off 16 points over the final three matches to put away the Spartans.
The victory by Tomah snaps a six-dual winning streak by the Spartans over Tomah dating back to the 2009-10 season when the Spartans snapped Tomah’s string of five straight MVC championships. Full match results are below…
