The Spartans are now ranked 8th in both the Wisconsin Wrestling Online and Crossface team polls. In the Wisconsin Wrestling Online poll, the Spartans moved ahead of River Valley, but still trail them in the Crossface poll. The Spartans finished well ahead of River Valley at Badger State last week. The polls are starting to shape up a lot like last year with Lodi just a few spots ahead of the Spartans at 5th place in each poll.
On the individual side, Sparta has some newcomers to the rankings. Nick Winchel has emerged as an honorable mention at 130 pounds while Tom Tourdot skyrocketed to 3rd at 215 pounds in the latest rankings. Morgan Leis is now 10th at 160 pounds while Toby Mosley is an honorable mention at 145.
Looking ahead to possible team sectional showdowns, at 130 pounds, Lodi has Getasew Shimshak ahead of Winchel. Shimshak was handled in the dual last year against Lodi by Mosley who pulled out a 9-6 victory. Lodi and River Valley each have five wrestlers in the rankings while the Spartans have four. Sparta’s Tom Tourdot (3rd at 215) and Lodi’s John Joutras (3rd at 103) are the highest ranked wrestlers of all three teams. It looks like it could be another crazy night should Sparta advance to team sectionals again.
I hope to be back in Kabul so that I can follow the blog. W/I has had a slightly different dual lineup that what they put out at Bi-State. I have it very close. If someone can pick up the upset and get the 8th win for their team, that could be the difference in the dual.
