Sparta used three forfeits and three pins to cruise to a 45-26 MVC victory at La Crosse Central Thursday night. The score didn't look great early for the Spartans as Central used three pins and a technical fall to jump to a 23-12 advantage by the 135-pound weight class. That's when Sparta started pounding away and winning decisions including a 6-4 overtime victory at 152 pounds by Jordan Stanek.
Sparta jumped ahead for the final time and first time since a 12-6 lead at 112 pounds when Brandon Brueggen received a forfeit at 171 pounds to give the Spartans a 27-26 lead. It was all pins and forfeits from there on out as the Spartans improved their dual record on the year to 6-1.

Sparta won 9 of 14 matches, three of them by forfeit. The loss drops Central's record to 0-4. Next up for the Spartans is a trip for the JV this weekend to Marshfield Tournament. Action there kicks off at 10 am.
The Varsity has a week off before taking on Holmen at home on Thursday, December 18th. The first home dual of the year looks to be a good one. JV action for the Holmen dual kicks off at 6:15 while the varsity will take the mat at 7:30.
If you can't make the dual, be sure to check Spartanwrestling.com anyway. Former head coach and current middle school assistant coach Mike Montgomery will live blog the game. Just come here a few days before the dual to sign up for an update and to get more details. Montgomery will blog about the matches as they are happening. The only way to find out the results quicker is to actually be here. More to come on this, but I promise you it will be worth it.
