Sparta won it’s 13th straight MVC dual and seventh straight against Logan with a 53-15 beatdown of La Crosse Logan Thursday night. Spartan wrestlers picked up six pins and two forfeits en route to winning 10 of 14 matches. Sparta has not lost to a La Crosse school in conference action since the 2005-06 season. Sparta 53 – La Crosse Logan 15
The score could have been closer to 60 for the Spartans, but Logan edged Sparta at the buzzer at 120 and 138. At 120 pounds, Brock Polhamus surrendered a reversal at the buzzer to Logan’s Gape Kapanke while at 138, Logan’s Stefan Jobe caught Derek VonRuden in a headlock to pick up the 3-1 victory. Job and McKenzie for Logan are two of the conference’s best wrestlers while Kapanke at 120 looks much improved over last year.
The Spartans get no time off as they head to Ithaca tomorrow for a dual against Weston/Ithaca. JV action starts at 6pm while the varsity starts at 7pm. I’ll try to post results from that match if I can get them, but they are likely to hit the website at a later time as I’ll be on the road.
