Sparta went 5-0 on the day to win the Stevens Point Dual Scramble. In the first four rounds, the Spartans were barely challenged as their closest dual was a 23 point victory over Manitowoc. Waiting for the Spartans in the finals was MVC rival Holmen. Like the first four duals, the Spartans won this one 32-15, but it might have been the closest 17-point dual victory the Spartans have wrestled in a long time.
There were six matches decided by a takedown or less and eight decided by three points or less. Sparta won five of those eight matches and that was the difference. No Holmen wrestler picked up pins and earned bonus points in only one match. Sparta picked up one pin and two major decision victories.
For preview purposes, this match tells us little besides that it will be very close. Had three of those close matches gone Holmen’s way, the score would have been 24-23 in favor of Holmen. Great win for Sparta and great job winning the close matches.
