Of the 3,678 wrestlers competing at eight regional sites around the state of Wisconsin, seven from Sparta finished well enough to advance to the state youth tournament that will take place on March 27th and 28th at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI.
On March 14th in Westby, Brett Von Ruden, Luke Wendorf, Alice Todryk, John Roddick, Brock Polhamus, Brage Pfaff and Corey Zimmerman placed first or second in their division of the regional qualifier. Below is a photo of the state-bound wrestlers…
- Brett Von Ruden – 1st Place at 72 pounds, 98-99 birth year
- Luke Wendorf – 2nd Place at 66 pounds, 00-01 birth year
- Alice Todryk – 1st Place at 45 pounds, 00-01 birth year
- John Roddick – 1st Place at 73 pounds, 96-97 birth year

If you can make it down to the Alliant Energy Center, it's not only a good chance to see the future of Sparta wrestling, but also the future of what will likely be many of the top names in Wisconsin wrestling just a few years down the road. Again, that tournament is March 27th and 28th at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI. You can find more information about the tournament by visiting the website of the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation. Click on Tournament Information across the top once you get there and then click State Tournaments in the drop down menu and then click one more time on Kids Folkstyle State. You can find even more information on that page by clicking on the "2009 Regional Results and Qualifiers" link.
Be sure to check back here if anything else for results from the upcoming Kids Folkstyle State Tournament.

Check back here later tonight and this week for some updated historical records that were brought to us from Pat Stevenson. Pat has been doing a lot of hard work digging up information to help us complete some holes in our records from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Also from Pat is a quiz he created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Spartan Wrestling program, which happened to be this year–something that had slipped my mind. I know… my bad.
However, with the 50th anniversary and Pat's hard work, we will be able to bring you a variety of new content and a quiz over the next few days that we hope you will be able to enjoy.
