In a move driven by rules more perplexing than the myriad of calls leveled against Sparta at the end of their dual against Tomah in 2000, State placewinners Jared Rickert (3rd) and Jeff Dolan (5th) have received honorable mention awards from the MVC despite defeating every conference opponent they faced this year. The reason for the ruling was that they split time between weight classes, although it seems odd that the rules would not take into account that they did so at times to give the team a more favorable matchup in the duals. It’s a change in the rules. The old rules where the tournament season held as much or more sway seems more appropriate.
So, here is the rundown for Conference awards as dictated by the MVC:
1st Team – Matt Tourdot, Michael Jacobsen, Trevor Hutson, Quincy Degenhardt
2nd Team – Jenna Ahnen
Honorable Mention – Jared Rickert, Jeff Dolan
Congrats to all Spartans on their awards…..
that’s ludicrous
The problem obviously sits with the MVC and not the wrestlers. To have Rickert & Dolan as Honorable Mentions considering their records and placement is a failure in MVC policy and rules and not with the team or the respective wrestlers.
A hardy congratulations to all those who are mentioned in the above. All of you are deserving and some even more deserving than honorable mention. Congratulation to all of you for a job well done!

This is truly a sad situation. I mean a guy that places 5th and another that places 3rd being named honorable mention is crazy. You would think dang must be a tough conference ha :)! But on a serious not something does need to be done with this system, same thing happened my senior year when I came down in weight class and recieved 2nd team! They need to review their stipulations..But nice job to all who were on this list and all spartans this year!
