Margo Degenhardt placed 4th at the United States Girls Wrestling Association national championships in Ypsilanti, Mich. over the weekend. The tournament at Eastern Michigan University featured the country’s top female wrestlers and Degenhardt was making her second trip to the tournament.
On day one, Margo went 4-1 registering three pins, a 10-7 victory and a close 12-14 loss to the 2nd ranked wrestler at 152 pounds in Michigan’s Julia Salata. On day two, Degenhardt wrestled her way to 4th place by defeating Michigan’s Autumn Rux by pin in 2:55. In a match for third place, Degenhardt dropped a 6-3 decision to Hawaii’s Anela Santiago. Salata, who Degenhardt dropped a very close 12-14 decision on day one, went on to win the 152 pound national title.

1st Round — Degenhardt pinned Autumn Rux (Lansing, MI)
2nd Round — Julie Salata (Canton, MI) decisioned Degenhardt 14-12
3rd Round — Degenhardt decisioned Corri Sayre (Warren, OH) 10-7
4th Round — Degenhardt pinned Marilyn Bryant (Hampton, VA)
5th Round — Degenhardt pinned Brandi Dale (Dayton, OH)
Day Two — Anela Santiago decisioned Degenhardt 6-3
