The varsity wasn’t the only Spartan wrestling team seeing success over the last month. Back on February 11th, the Sparta varsity reserve competed in the annual end-of-the-year pizza duals and came up with three big wins. The duals consist of wrestling and then eating copious amounts of pizza because weight isn’t an issue once the season is over. Here is how Sparta did…
- Sparta 60 – Holmen 6
- Sparta 46 – Arcadia/La Crosse Logan 33
- Sparta 74 – Melrose-Mindoro/GET 9
The Friday before, they competed in the varsity reserve conference tournament at Aquinas and saw more big results. There were 11 champions out of 15 weight classes. Champions included Jakob Larson, Sam Forbes, Sam Braswell, Kole Nelson, Matt Fahning, Josiah Scott, Austin Feltner, Justin Marx, Ryan Wisniewski, Nic Swiatley and Brady Hanson.
The varsity may get most of the attention, but for every tournament or dual meet won, there are varsity reserve wrestlers who are pushing the varsity every single practice. In the process, they are improving themselves and preparing to compete for varsity spots down the road. Congrats to the varsity reserve on another great year!
