The lowdown on Lodi

This morning I looked over Trackwrestling at the team Lodi put on the mat at this past weekend’s regional in Jefferson then went back through the year and recorded some results and made notes of any matches where Lodi wrestlers had wrestled the same guys as Sparta at some point throughout the year.  There are some interesting tidbits.  Check ’em out below…

103  —  John Joutras (26-14), Placed 2nd at Regionals, 2nd in the Capitol Conference tournament, 5th at the Tomah Scramble.  Both Joutras and Bryce Nowaczyk wrestled Tomah’s Twanner Dworak this year.  Dworak pinned Joutras in 1:41 while Nowaczyk fell 8-6 to Dworak.

112  —  Michael Clapper (21-16), Placed 3rd at Regionals, 2nd at Capitol Conference and 6th at the Tomah Scramble, Pinned Tomah’s Skyler McCarthy in 34 seconds.  McCarthy was tech falled by Brandon Rickert 19-1.  Clapper also lost to Erk Vesbach of Viroqua 6-5 whereas Adam Wiedl pinned Vesbach in 3:19 at the Lancaster Tournament.

119  —  Alex Ibinger (21-16), Placed 2nd at Regionals, 3rd at the Capitol Conference and 9th at the Tomah Scramble

125  —  Getasew Shimshak (34-6), Currently ranked 6th at 125 pounds in division two according to Wisconsin Wrestling Online, He was a 2009 state qualifier at 130 pounds, but did not place.  He placed 1st at Regionals, 1st at Capitol Conference, 2nd at the Marty Loy Classic and 1st at the Tomah Scramble.  He pinned Tomah’s Mike Linehan in 57 seconds at the Tomah Scramble.

130  —  Ryan Lehr (29-12), Lehr was a state qualifier at 119 pounds last year, but did not place.  He placed 2nd at Regionals, 3rd at the Capitol Conference and 4th at the Tomah Scramble.  Tony Koch (Reedsburg) beat Lehr 6-5 and Koch pinned Derek VonRuden at the Reedsburg Dual Tournament in 1:05.

135  —  Clint Heimbecker (29-12), Placed 1st at Regionals, 1st at Capitol Conference, 6th at the Tomah Scramble and 7th at the Marty Loy Classic.  Heimbecker beat Trae Mazera (Lancaster) 7-4.  Mazera major decisioned Logan Denasha at the Reedsburg Dual Tournament by a score of 15-2.

140  —  Justin Miller (31-9), Placed 1st at Regionals, 1st at Capitol Conference and 4th at the Tomah Scramble.  Miller pinned Tomah’s Jacob Dubord in 5:02.  Dubord majored Nick Anderson 11-3 during this year’s Sparta-Tomah dual.

145  —  Jesse Ziegler (17-7), Placed 2nd at Regionals, 2nd at Capitol Conference and 6th at the Tomah Scramble.  Ziegler majored Ryan Kohler of Reedsburg 11-3.  Morgan Leis also majored Kohler by a score of 10-1.

152  —  Tony Zeman (39-1), Currently ranked 1st at 152 pounds in division two according to Wisconsin Wrestling Online.  Placed 1st at Regionals, 1st at Capitol Conference, 3rd at the Marty Loy Classic and 1st at the Tomah Scramble.  Pinned Tomah’s Travis Kirchner in 53 seconds at the Tomah Scramble.

160  —  Michael Watters (6-3), Placed 3rd at Regionals and 3rd at Capitol Conference.  Watters appears to be a new arrival on varsity as most of his matches from the first three months of the year were on junior varsity.

171  —  Dakota Cable (42-3), Placed 1st at Regionals, 1st at Capitol Conference, 1st at the Marty Loy Classic and 2nd at the Tomah Scramble.  Currently ranked 2nd at 171 pounds in division two according to Wisconsin Wrestling Online.  One of Cable’s three defeats this year was to Reedsburg’s Shane Rockweiler by a score of 6-4.  Brueggen has lost two very close matches to Rockweiler this year.  Cable and Brueggen also share the honor of defeating Viroqua’s Jack Cocchiola.  Brueggen has done so twice while Cable pinned Cocchiola in 5:50 earlier this year.

189  —  Jamison Adler (28-11), Placed 1st at Regionals, 2nd at Capitol Conference and 2nd at the Tomah Scramble.  Adler defeated Mike Von Haden 10-6.  Matt Tourdot pinned Mike Von Haden in 1:40 at the Sparta-Tomah dual.

215  —  Cody Endres (13-1), Currently ranked third this year in division two at 215 pounds according to Wisconsin Wrestling Online.  Started off the year ranked 1st, but fell to Anthony Edgren of New Lisbon at the Tomah Scramble in double overtime.  Lost a lot of wrestling time in the middle of the year due to injury, but is now back.  He was a 2009 state runner-up at 215 pounds losing in overtime in the finals.  He would be considered one of the top competition of Matt Tourdot (43-0) going into the state tournament.  Tourdot and Endres are on the same side of the sectional bracket so it’s likely they will meet in the semifinals there if they don’t meet Tuesday evening.

285  —  Ryan Quick (29-13), Placed 2nd at Regionals, 1st at Capitol Conference, 6th at the Tomah Scramble and 6th at the Marty Loy Classic.  Currently an honorable mention in division two according to Wisconsin Wrestling Online.  Wrestled Viroqua’s Taylor Henry and lost 3-2.  Sparta’s Steve Stevenson has wrestled Henry twice this year falling both times by pin in under one minute.

==========

I compiled a mock roster of the two teams and did a couple different scenarios involving moves each team could make.  I won’t say what the results were because I’d rather not jinx myself, but the results were very close.  This is going to be a dual where the bonus points are big.  I would not be surprised if the teams split the number of matches each side wins or it goes eight to six in one team’s favor.  These teams are that close.  Both are solid up and down the lineup with few weak spots.  The only thing I think I am safe in saying is that it will be tighter than the dual with Tomah and that dual was one match away from an even split in terms of matches won by each team.  Bonus points people.  They will be big come tomorrow night.

Still no word about the live blog.  You may see a live blog window up here tonight, but that is just for testing purposes.  I’ll be testing out updating the live blog with a mobile device so if you check out the live blog and see strange stuff going on, have no worries, it’s just us messing around.

So the schedule for tomorrow’s duals are as follows…  Sparta will wrestle Lodi at 6pm.  At the same time, River Valley will wrestle Delavan-Darien.  The winner of these two duals will wrestle at 8pm.  All duals will be at Wisconsin Dells High School.  The address for the high school is 520 Race Street and the phone number is 608.253.1461 should you have any questions.
