After a year-long absence, the official website of the Sparta Spartan Wrestling team has returned. The new website will allow immediate updates as to how the wrestling team is doing while allowing everyone from coaches to Athletic Director Mike Montgomery to update the site with the latest news and information on the Spartans. While we are at it, here is a message from head coach Lyle Blum and assistant Gabe McMahon:
A highly anticipated Spartan wrestling season is fast approaching and with everyone returning, expectations are high. Seniors Jared Rickert, Jeff Dolan, and Quincy Degenhart returned from Madison last February with nothing to show. They want this season to be different, and they have the potential to make it happen. The Spartan lineup will also include some underclassmen that have been working hard over the summer and are hungry to make a name for themselves. Depth in the lower weights continues to be an issue, but there are sources reporting that Sparta has some new tricks up its sleeve and will dominate the MVC. That, however, remains to be seen. We’ll just have to wait and see if the returning talent and new system will be enough.
While Dolan and Rickert work hard to make an impact at the State Tournament this year, the dynamic duo are quickly approaching a number of Spartan Wrestling records.
Jared currently has 105 career wins – Kody Seekamp holds current Sparta
record with 138
Jeff Currently has 91 career wins and has an opportunity to finish in
the top 3 all time in Sparta.
Both Jeff (239) and Jared (225) could threaten Troy Lietzau’s career
takedown record of 306.
Check back in the coming days and weeks for updates to the MVC and team records while also getting information on this year’s schedule, roster and more.
