126-pounder Christian Lamon led all Spartans with three pins en route to the championship at the Lancaster Invite.
It was a banner day for the Spartans at the Lancaster Invite. Five were champions and everyone else placed in the top five as the Spartans comfortably won the Lancaster Invite by 15.5 points over Viroqua. Iowa teams Dubuque Wahlert and Dubuque Senior came in third and fourth while host Lancaster finished fifth.
Of the 10 Spartan wrestling at Lancaster, nine had pins and seven had more than one pin. Leading the way for the Spartans was Jon Bailey, Christian Lamon, Brett VonRuden, Jaden Winchel and Hayden Krein. Bailey, Winchel and Krein topped the 20-win mark for the season. Bailey leads all Spartans with 23 wins followed by Krein at 22, Winchel at 20 and Lamon at 17.
At 182 pounds, Austin Zwiefel continued his streak of tough wrestling with a second place finish losing 6-4 in the championship match to Viroqua’s Harley Springborn (17-4). Also placing for the Spartans was David Hayes in 4th, Matt Fahning in 5th, Ryan Wisniewski in 5th and Brady Hansen in 3rd.
