The La Crosse Tribune wrote another great article on the wrestling program in Sparta. The writer, Todd Sommerfeldt, takes a look at how the program’s numbers are flourishing while many other programs around the state are co-opting and seeing declining participation numbers. As we’ve mentioned before, the numbers at the middle school level exceeded 60 while youth wrestling numbers easily surpass 100.
While most communities are struggling to keep varsity lineups filled, Sparta is one – Holmen is another – that is flourishing, and that has led to plenty of recent success.
“Our constant focus is to keep kids,” Larsen said after his Spartans beat Aquinas 69-6 last week for his 50th dual victory. “We work really hard to keep kids out for the sport, keep it fun and keep the schedules filled for them.”
It’s a good read and a good sign those running the program, the Spartan Wrestling Club and our fans, parents and wrestlers are doing a great job.
Slainte, Derek,, know I’m getting on in years,, and maybe this first snow of this winter has affected recall etc,, but would you explain what the Headline relates to ,, who-whom-what is Carter? other than my question ,, article is of worth…and success this evening.
Begorra,
Hey Tom. I wondered the same thing. I think it’s an error. I was thinking maybe something to do with Coach Carter, but then I was like hmmmmm no. I imagine they meant to say “Sparta’s Carson…”
Slainte, proof reader must be from the UWL communications-English dept. heard they set their GPA low so all students can obtain..so I heard now cannot state as fact but!
Or a long in the tooth, reporter from the Trib who yearns for Pres. Jimmy Carter,
or still another long in the tooth reporter who yearns for tv shows like “Welcome Back Carter.
Hmmnn..
I hear you man. It’s corrected now though!
