Spartans blast Holmen 48-26

The Spartans dominated Holmen Thursday night in a matchup of teams that have won the last five MVC championships.  Sparta picked up six first period pins and seven overall to go along with two more victories by decisions en route to a domiating 48-26 victory in Sparta.

Hayden Krein, Ryan Wisniewski, Logan VanTassel and Walker Polhamus all moved up a weight class to create favorable matchups with Holmen.  The move paid off as the Spartans picked up four pins and 24 team points to jump out to a 36-5 lead.  The Vikings’ strong upper weights picked up 12 points with pins at 220 and 285 before Corey Zimmerman made his 106 debut for the Spartans and stopped the Viking scoring with a 3-1 victory.

Holmen would pick up nine more points with a decision at 113 and a pin at 120.  At 113, Sparta’s David Hayes gave Holmen’s Tanner Schultz (ranked 3rd at 106 in D1) all he could handle in a match that saw Hayes leading for almost half of the six minutes.

Jaden Winchel closed out the scoring for the Spartans with a lightning fast pin in 32 seconds to give Sparta the 48-26 victory.  Full results are below…
