There wasn’t much action Thursday night, but when Sparta did step on the mat, they won every match. The Spartans annihilated the Hilltoppers of Onalaska 80-0 in the second biggest margin of defeat in the history of this rivalry. Sparta won 81-0 during the 2007-08 season. There were two JV matches–one wrestled before the start of the varsity match and one at the end. Sparta used seven forfeits along with five pins to improve to 15-0 on the year and 4-0 in the MVC.

==========
The win tonight matches the best start in school history for the Spartans. Sparta started out 15-0 during the 2003-04 season and went onto finish 15-1. Sparta has a chance to eclipse that mark a week from now at home against La Crosse Central.
Next up for the Spartans is the Spartan Invite. With teams like Marshfield, Reedsburg, New Lisbon, Neillsville and Holmen, there should be some very good wrestling. Check back here tomorrow for a preview of this weekend’s Spartan Invite.
