Tomah cruised to a first place team finish at the 2007 MVC/Coulee Conference meet in Sparta besting the 2nd place Spartans by 101.5 points. Sparta finished 2nd overall with 182.5 points while Westby came in third and tops in the Coulee with 178.0 points. Sparta was without 152-pounder Jeff Dolan as he rested to let an injured knee heal. It was a precautionary measure and he will practice this week.
Highlights of the day included Jenna Ahnen wrestling Arcadia’s Taryn McKeeth in what proved to be the first match in MVC/Coulee history pitting two females against one another. Ahnen proved victorious pinning McKeeth in 2:38. The Most Valuable Wrestler award went to 160-pound champion Theo Jensen from La Crosse Central. Jensen picked up two major decisions on the day and defeated Westby’s Vinnie Pedretti 7-4 in the finals.
Sparta’s lone champion on the day was Jared Rickert. In preparation for the tournament season, both Rickert and Colin Burns-Gilbert dropped a weight class. Rickert picked up a pin and two major decisions including one in the finals as he defeated Aquinas’ Charlie Soldner 11-2. For full team results check below:
