Report: Tomah coach Von Haden learned everything he knows from Sparta’s Tourdot, Stafslien

This may be old, but a La Crosse Tribune article from April 1, 2007 (this is not a joke) named Tomah head wrestling coach Jeff Von Haden the Tribune's Wrestling Coach of the Year.  The award was deserved as Von Haden qualified seven wrestlers to the state tournament, won a Bi-State Division One team title and took the Timberwolves to the state team tournament semifinals.

However, early in the article it talks about how Von Haden got his start under former Spartan head coach and current assistant coach Bill Tourdot and later under Dale Stafslien, who is now an assistant principal at Sparta High School and avid Spartan wrestling supporter.

"After wrestling for the program in high school, it was an easy choice
for Von Haden to return as its coach. He began as an assistant under
Bill Tourdot in the early 1990s, and later under Dave Stafslien before
taking over the reigns in 1998. His allegiance with Tomah has only
strengthened with the presence of his son Josh, a senior on this year’s
team,"
the article reads.

The facts cannot be disputed.  Click here to read the full article…
