Todd Sommerfeldt of the La Crosse Tribune penned a column today talking about the atmosphere at Tuesday night’s dual while using the Brueggen-Lynch match as a metaphor for what both teams were trying to accomplish. Check it out by clicking here.
What a wonderful season for the Sparta Wrestling Team. It was almost magical going 17 – 0 and doing it in Tomah, while ending their run on the MVC crown! Each and every wrestler on this team has been a pleaure to watch this year. All of you should be proud of your accomplishments. Your parents, coaches, fans and alumnists are all proud of each and every one of you!
I would also like to congratulate coach Jake Larson & his staff. Jake you took the program to a new level and we are so proud of your wrestlers and the program. Thanks to our Athletic Director Bill Tourdot for getting those budgetary constraints, travel and internal school politics dealt with. Scott Zurfluh, for building a middle school program that has made our high school program consistently successful. To Mike Montgomery for turning this program! You understood the fundamentals of building a program that has continued to flourish. Finally, to all the parents, fans and alumni that support the team. Your unselfish efforts to make those long drives, contribute money and time has forged a wrestling program we can be proud of for years to come. Thanks

I think Rick summed it up pretty well. It’s a collaboration of people that make a good wrestling team/program and I think there is a foundation now where this should continue for some time.
I agree Rick, you summed it up well! I know what a big fan you still are of wrestling, was happy you were able to see them in action at some of there tournaments this season.
