This past weekend, Vince Polhamus, David Hayes, Brett Von Ruden, Jon Bailey, Hayden and Mathias Krein all traveled to St. Joseph, MO to compete in an individual tournament on Saturday and to join one of two Wisconsin teams in a national team dual on Sunday. Of the Six Spartan wrestlers, Mathias placed 5th, Brett placed 2nd and both Hayden and Jon were champions. Along with becoming champions, Jon earned an American Crown, which means he won three American Crown Series National tournaments–one in Ohio and two in Missouri–making him the fourth Wisconsin wrestler to ever earn this title. The other three Wisconsin wrestlers who have earned an American crown are Nick Osowoski, Paul Bianchi and Jesse Thielke.
On Sunday, all six boys joined Team Wisconsin LAW X-Gold Elite and earned second place where they lost to the Kansas Renegades, but defeated the Wisconsin All-Stars. Both Hayden and Jon went undefeated on the weekend. Congrats to all the Sparta wrestlers who made the trip to Missouri and thank you to Melissa Bailey for providing a recap of the weekend’s events!
