Here are the individual results from the Rochester Invitational. Also below is a link to a PDF of the brackets from the tournament.
I think this is the last year the Spartans will be at this tournament. Next year they plan on wrestling at the Kasson-Mantorville Swalla Duals, which is also in southern Minnesota. This year, the tournament was won by Simley who is currently ranked 1st in Class AA (D2). They defeated Kasson-Mantorville in the championship bracket 41-21. Kasson-Mantorville is ranked 2nd in Minnesota Class AA. To give you an idea of how good these teams are, Simley finished five spots ahead of Wisconsin Rapids in the ultra-competitive dual tournament The Clash at the beginning of this year. Kasson-Mantorville lost in a head-t0-head dual against Rapids by a score of 38-26.
In other words, Sparta will have some good competition next year. The dual format also has a better guarantee when it comes to matches than tournaments. Spartan wrestlers had numerous byes at Rochester this year. Ben Schaitel went 0-2 in matches wrestled, but byes propelled him to sixth place. Now onto the individual results…
