Back on Saturday, January 10th, the varsity traveled to the Lancaster Invitational and placed third behind second place Dubuque Walhert and champions Fennimore. Leading the way for the Spartans were champions John Roddick, Jaden Winchel, Hayden Krein and Logan VanTassel. Christian Lamon and Brock Polhamus both finished second while Brett VonRuden, Ryan Wisniewski and Walker Polhamus finished third. In a tough 113-pound bracket, freshman David Hayes finished 4th.

Sparta kept it close most of the day, but couldn’t keep up with Fennimore and Dubuque Walhert who each brought more wrestlers to the tournament. Fennimore had 13 while Dubuque had all 14 weights filled. On the other hand, the Spartans only wrestled 10 guys.
