The Spartan wrestlers met some of the State’s best at the Stoughton sponsored Badger State Invitational. Leading the way for Sparta were meet Champions Jaden Winchel at 132 and Brock Polhamus at 145. Jaden defeated Zach Hesselberber from Stoughton for the 2nd time in two weeks to win the 132 title. Hesselberger was a State Runner-up in D1 last year. Brock defeated Tyler Dow from Stoughton in the championship match. Dow’s only two losses this year are to Brock and Hayden Krein. A strong 3rd place finish was turned in by frosh Hayden Krein at 152, Krein lost 6-4 to Chris Yauch in the semi-finals. Yauch is a defending State Champion having defeated Brock Polhamus last year in the State Finals. Also having an impressive tournament was frosh Brett VonRuden. Brett went 4-1 on the day. Senior John Roddick at 126 finished 2nd losing to State Champion Tepra Wright from Wisconsin Lutheran. Wright is one of the most impressive wrestlers in the State and someone John is sure to meet later on down the road. 8th place finishes were turned in by David Hayes at 113 and Ryan Wisniewski at 160. Also having a good day were Logan Van Tassel at 170 and Christian Lamon at 120, both were Consolation A champs.
The Spartans have a little time off now before heading to the Northern Badger Invitational in River Falls December 29th and 30th.
