Some good victories on the day for the Spartans include Murnane’s 4-2 victory over Kevin Klopfenstein and Dawley’s pin in 1:43 over Weston’s Atticus Sharp. Klopfenstein was a state qualifier last year and would regularly give Derek VonRuden fits. Sharp has been a solid wrestler for Weston and defeated Dawley 8-3 last year in Sparta’s dual against Weston and defeated Burkhalter two years ago 3-2 in Sparta.
Due to injuries and other reasons, the Spartans probably won’t be at full strength until after Christmas, but it was encouraging to see the team competitive despite not being at full strength. Next up for the Spartans is the MVC-opener at La Crosse Logan on Thursday.
Good win for Mike M. Klopfenstein finished 6th at State last year. DVR beat him in the fifth place match. John and Brock are starting strong, and good to see Joseph get some good matches in!
