According to the 1970 senior yearbook…
Wrestling in probably the toughest conference in the state, the Sparta grapplers came close to winning four
matches only to be defeated with a forfeit hampering their efforts. Wrestling outside the conference Sparta
won two dual meets and, for the first time in the school’s history, brought a first place trophy home from the
Melrose Invitaitional Tournament with five individual champions. Another highlight of the season was being host
to what was believed the first Takedown Scrimmage in the state. With only fourteen boys competing, individual
success was good and with only two seniors, next year’s outlook is good!
