UPDATED: Sparta falls to Hudson in Finals

Sparta fell to Hudson 57-9 in the finals of the Hudson Dual Invitational Saturday on a day that saw the Spartans go 3-1 in duals and finish 2nd overall.

Sparta took care of business early on winning their pool by the following scores:

Sparta 39
Park Cottage Grove 32

Sparta 61
St. John’s 9

Sparta 38
Hutchinson 28

All three schools were from Minnesota.  Coming from the other four team pool was Hudson who defeated the 3rd-ranked team in Division 2 in Ellsworth.  Seniors Derrick Johnson and Michael Jacobsen both went 4-0 on the day and junior Derek McDonald won three matches for the Spartans.  The four wins by Johnson pushed him to 20 on the season–the first Spartan to do that this year.

====================

Hudson’s six pins, tech fall and major decision helped in the lopsided score.  Trevor Hutson remained out of the lineup while he continued to heal his injury while reserves Adam Wiedl (103) and Ken Denton (119) saw action once the match got out of hand.  Hudson came into the day receiving votes as an honorable mention team in Division One.

The Hudson Dual Invitational drove Sparta’s overall dual record to 8-3 on the year.  Sparta has the entire week off before returning to action Saturday at the Freedom Irish Invitational.  This will also be the first year Sparta has participated in this invite.
