The razor-thin margin between Tomah and Sparta in their dual this past Tuesday has propelled the Spartans into the No. 2 position in the Coulee Region Power Rankings. With 4-5 matches that could have gone either direction and were still up for grabs into the third period, the margin between Sparta and Tomah was probably closer than people realized. Black River Falls also jumped into the No. 8 spot in making their Rankings debut for 2008-09.
I wanted to personally thank everyone who visited the website over the past week. In the days before and after the dual meet, traffic to Spartanwrestling.com was almost ten times as heavy as a typical day and Mike Montgomery's live blog has received over 100 replays while nearly 75 unique individuals logged onto watch the action. We plan to continue doing the live blogging for home duals next year and possibly for the final rounds of the Spartan Invite.
Sparta is resting this week and getting ready for the Regional tournament Saturday in Tomah. The team winner of Saturday's tournament will go onto wrestle in the team sectionals on Tuesday, February 17th at 7pm in Reedsburg. It looks to be a tight group of teams at the top with pre-tournament favorites Sparta, Tomah and Reedsburg as the most likely teams to take home the title and earn a chance to wrestle at the State Team Tournament.
Check back here Saturday for updates on how Regionals went.
I got an opportunity to visit with the Sparta wrestling team and it’s coaching staff on Thursday. The kids and coaches are working hard preparing for Saturday’s regional tournament being held in Tomah.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to watch Sparta wrestle this year, you need to be in Tomah on Saturday. These young men will lay it on the line Saturday and represent their school proudly. I challenge each and every parent, brother & sister, aunt & uncle, grandparent, booster and past wrestler to drive to Tomah and support your team. I’ll be driving from Waukesha early Saturday morning and look forward in seeing a gymnasium full of Spartan fans.
Good luck to every Spartan wrestler and their fine coaches. We’ll be their supporting you a 100%.
