Here’s your quick Sparta Invite preview. Another great tournament in store with 48 ranked wrestlers including three wrestlers who are tops at their weight classes. The top dogs include Sparta’s Jaden Winchel at 132 pounds, Lancaster’s Cole Martin at 145 and David Chadd at 195.
Based on rankings and number of ranked individuals, expect Sparta, Eau Claire North and Iowa-Grant/Highland to be in competition for the top team spot. Anything can happen though and Sparta will need to wrestle their best to come away with a title at their home meet–something they’ve done only twice since 1997.

Some big matchups that could happen include…
- Sparta’s Brock Polhamus (ranked 2nd in D2) and Lancaster’s Cole Martin (ranked 1st in D3). Martin took it to Polhamus a couple weeks ago, but you can bet Brock will be looking to serve a plate of vengeance.
- Sparta’s Jaden Winchel (1st at 132) and Stetson Clary (2nd at 132) could meet. Brock Polhamus defeated Clary earlier this season in a dual in Sparta.
- At 152 pounds, Sparta’s Hayden Krein (ranked 5th at 152) could meet Lancaster’s Dustin Reynolds (6th at 152 in D3)
- Lots of good matchups at 170. Desoto’s Lance Buckles (ranked 4th), Iowa-Grant/Highland’s Luke Nowak (ranked 2nd) and Neillsville’s Jake Rueth (ranked 3rd)
- At 182 pounds, we have Eau Claire North’s Hunter Dahlby (ranked 6th) and Reedsburg’s Dalton Hahn (ranked 2nd)
